Sociable Society at the Sam Smith Concert

In 2023, our sociABLE society got together for a special night out – the Sam Smith Gloria Tour Concert that none of us will forget. The music, the energy, the atmosphere – it all added up to a fantastic experience.

Our sociABLE society is all about making social activities accessible to everyone, no matter their needs. At My Choice Disability Support, we know that concerts and large events can sometimes feel out of reach for people with disabilities. That’s why we put extra thought into making sure the night was comfortable and enjoyable for all our participants.

Making music accessible for all

We’re proud of how we were able to ensure every participant could enjoy the concert, whether it was through securing accessible seating, planning transport, or simple making sure everyone felt comfortable throughout the night. For example, some of our participants are sensitive to loud sounds, so we provided noise-cancelling headphones to make sure the music wasn’t overwhelming.

These small steps make a huge difference. Instead of feeling overstimulated, our participants could enjoy the incredible performance, soaking in the music without discomfort. This is what sociABLE society is all about – finding ways to include everyone, no matter what their needs are, so they can be part of life’s big moments.

A team that understands and supports

Our team at My Choice Disability Support was there every step of the way, making sure things ran smoothly. From helping our community participants get to their seats, to offering a reassuring hand during the louder songs, and getting into the fun of the event and singing along, the support staff were a constant source of encouragement. It wasn’t just about providing care - it was about making sure everyone could participate fully and have fun.

The Sam Smith concert wasn’t just about the music, it was about creating an experience where our community felt free to enjoy themselves without worrying about accessibility barriers. It’s moments like these that show how important it is to offer these kinds of opportunities to people with disabilities.
